Where to Eat in the 16th arrondissement

Comice Paris

In the French capital’s vast culinary landscape, diners have largely focused their attention on the concentration of dynamic bistros, bars, and casual cafés of eastern Paris. Now, there are compelling reasons to direct appetites to the city’s western edge, says François-Régis Gaudry, the 43-year-old food critic, radio and television host, and bestselling author of Let’s Eat France!, published in 2018.

Among the city’s densest and most affluent districts, the 16th arrondissement has long been considered a sleepy, stuffy, gastronomic desert, known instead for its sports stadiums – the Parc des Princes and the Roland Garros Stadium – and its leafy neighbor, the Bois de Boulogne. Mr. Gaudry knows the area’s limitations firsthand: every week for the last decade, he has recorded his wildly popular radio show On Va Déguster
at La Maison de la Radio, the 16th arrondissement headquarters for Radio France broadcasting. But things are slowly changing.

He shared five of his favorite places to eat in the neighborhood with me for my recent New York Times travel story. The best part? Our shortlists were completely aligned. To read about them, click HERE.
